Precipice Trail, Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island, ME

See more in our guide to 55 Amazing New England Hikes.

Located on the east side of Champlain Mountain in Acadia National Park, this 1,058-foot ascent across an open rock face would be a technical climb if it weren’t for the handrails and ladders provided to assist hikers. The trail closes periodically in the summer for the protection of endangered peregrine falcons.
