The Club by George Foreman III, a luxury boxing gym in Fort Point, is hosting a free, three-part self-defense series starting October 17. Hey, if you’re going to take self-defense classes, they may as well be from a gym owned by the son of famed boxer George Foreman.

The catch? While the workshops—which will be held on the afternoons of October 17, 24, and 31—are free, they’re only open to residents of Southie, the Seaport, and Fort Point, or people who work in those neighborhoods. (If you don’t happen to live or work in the area, there’s also a free women’s self defense class held Saturday mornings in Charlestown.)

The Club’s classes will be led by Gershon Ben Keren, a Krav Maga expert who has trained military and law enforcement professionals in the past. Each Saturday will be devoted to a different topic. First up is how to avoid, predict, and defend yourself against muggers; next, how to survive and de-escalate an unexpected fight, like a bar fight; and finally, how to prevent and get out of an abduction. Interested students must pre-register for each topic separately.

Classes will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Register for each session here. 15 Channel Center St., Boston, everybodyfights.com.
