Boston Children’s Appeared in Last Night’s Survivor Episode

Cast member Terry Deitz was forced to leave the show after learning his son needed a heart transplant at Boston Children's.

Survivor fans may have noticed a little hometown shoutout for Boston Children’s Hospital in last night’s episode.

The circumstances started out grim: two-time cast member Terry Deitz was forced to leave the show after learning that his teenaged son, Danny, was sick. At the end of the episode, the CBS show aired an update telling audience members that Danny, who was suffering from the heart muscle disease cardiomyopathy, had received a heart transplant at Boston Children’s. (A spokesperson for Boston Children’s confirms that Danny is now doing well.)

Since filming wrapped, Boston Children’s has worked with the Deitz family to create a video (below) telling Danny’s story and promoting the #DannyStrong campaign, a fundraiser the family launched to support the research and activities of the hospital’s Heart Center.
