Somerville Dance Union Is Adding Barre Classes
Somerville Dance Union is giving you another way to work off those holiday pounds: It’s offering two new, high-intensity barre classes.
“Up to the Barre” and “Booty Barre,” taught by popular Zumba instructor Jess Perkins, will fuse classical ballet with dance, Pilates, and yoga techniques, set to today’s Top 40 hits. The classes are meant to lengthen and strengthen muscles, and unlike most barre classes, both 60-minute offerings incorporate short bursts of cardio. The idea is high energy, low impact, with no dance experience required.
Booty Barre will be held on Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m., and Up to the Barre will take place Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.
