Take those City Sports t-shirts off eBay, because the store is coming back.
After declaring bankruptcy in October and announcing in November that it would close all stores, the brand’s homepage now says it “will run again.” A message sent to email subscribers announced that a new company, City Sports USA, Inc., will relaunch the beloved sportswear store under the classic branding and logo.

Philadelphia magazine reported that brothers Brent and Blake Sonnek-Schmelz are behind the relaunch, and plan to start with an online presence. They’ll then search for physical locations in Boston, Philadelphia, New York, and Washington, D.C. The shops, however, will likely not be housed in City Sports’ old storefronts, as they weren’t included in the sale; the old Boylston Street store, for one, is already a Modell’s.
“We’re going to stick to our core customer which is the urban athlete,” Brent Sonneck-Schmelz told Philadelphia. “We want to connect with that 25 to 40-year-old person who loves working out, running and being an active person.”
The saga continues.
