Where to Learn Aerials, Circus Arts, and Gymnastics

Learning to fly, flip, and float is pretty much the antithesis of your typical gym routine—which is exactly the point. At these local venues, you can learn aerials, circus arts, and gymnastics, usually with no experience required.

Aerials

1. Sky High Studio: This Marlborough studio is a bit of a trek from the city, but it offers a unique class called Fly Gym, which takes traditional conditioning, yoga, and Pilates moves into the silks.

2. South Boston Yoga

South Boston Yoga offers aerial yoga classes on Wednesday evenings. You’ll challenge your core and experience yoga in a whole new way.

3. Swet Studio

This LGBTQ-friendly studio in the South End offers traditional aerial yoga, as well as aerial barre and “cocooning classes,” which allow for meditation and total relaxation in the silks.

Circus Arts

4. AirCraft Aerial Arts

This Somerville gym offers “Taster” classes ($25) for trying out the trapeze, rings, and silks before you commit to its usual eight-week sessions. Take it from us: AirCraft classes are an unbelievable upper body workout.

5. Esh Circus Arts

No matter your circus fantasy, you can learn it at Esh. It’s got a huge range of classes, including aerial silks, partner acrobatics, survey of circus, tumbling, aerial yoga, and more. Take a Taster class, or sign up for a whole session.

6. Commonwealth Circus Center

This soon-to-open circus center will offer youth and adult classes in styles ranging from trapeze and aerials to hand balancing and juggling. Enjoy introductory “taster” classes from August 21 through September 3.

Gymnastics

7. Gymnastics Academy of Boston: This Acton gym offers classes for adults, and parent-child classes to accommodate the little ones.

8. New England Sports Academy

NESA offers all-levels adult gymnastics classes several days a week. Going once per week for a month will run you $110.

9. Rhythmic Dreams

If your tumbling days are behind you, try rhythmic gymnastics at this non-profit school in Needham. Adult classes are held Monday and Tuesday evenings and Saturday afternoons.
