Constitution Beach Is Offering Free Kayaking This Summer

The program runs July 11 through August 9.

If, by some crazy chance, you grow tired of the numerous free fitness series happening around town this summer, just head to Constitution Beach.

From July 11 through August 9, anybody with a hankering to paddle may kayak for free at Constitution. Rentals are open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., behind Constitution’s tennis courts and skating rink. No experience is necessary—professionals will be on hand to assist you and teach you the basics, if needed—but all kayakers ages 18 or younger must have a waiver signed by a parent.

The program is sponsored by the Neighborhood of Affordable Housing (NOAH), a community development group that works to strengthen living conditions in East Boston, and its Youth Community Builders group. The Department of Conservation and Recreation and the American Canoe Association are also on board.

NOAH ran a similar program for two weeks last summer, sending more than 1,600 kayakers out onto the water. This year, with the initiative doubling in length, the group is hoping to serve 4,000 people. Why not be one of them?

Free, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., 7/11 to 8/9. Constitution Beach, 799 Bennington St., Boston, noahcdc.org.
