An impassioned crowd gathered Saturday to protest federal efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, just a day after Gov. Charlie Baker vowed to use state funds to offset such cuts.
With temperatures hovering below 20 degrees, supporters gathered on the Common to hear speeches from Mayor Marty Walsh; Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts President Jennifer Childs-Roshak; Congressmen Joe Kennedy, Michael Capuano, and Seth Moulton; Congresswoman Katherine Clark; City Councilor-at-Large Ayanna Pressley; and Planned Parenthood patients and supporters. Despite his announcement Friday, Baker was not in attendance.
“Speak up. Organize. Be part of the national conversation. This is a movement,” Walsh said. “We care about each other. We care about people. We care about our country. We care to make sure that people in our country have access to healthcare.”
