We’re not sure what’s cooler—practicing yoga amongst a sea of 1,000 other people or touching the same artificial turf as Tom Brady’s $180 million feet. On Sunday April 29, we don’t have to choose.
Boston Children’s Hospital will host the eighth annual Yoga Reaches Out all-day yoga event, benefitting the Boston Children’s Hospital Wellness Program, at Gillette Stadium’s Empower Field House. Each participant is required to fundraise at least $250 by May 1, and all proceeds go to helping families of patients coping with the stress that comes with having a child endure ongoing treatments.
With last year’s Yoga Reaches Out funds, the Wellness Program was able to expand to six days a week, providing a multitude of stress-management modalities such as Reiki educational training and classes, massages, zumba dance classes, and yoga classes. The hospital is hoping to continue growing the zumba and yoga classes to expand the offerings into the community, as stated on their website.
Led by lead instructor Shiva Rea, founder of Prana Vinyasa, the day will consist of a morning and afternoon yoga session with a break in between for lunch, when participants can shop at marketplace vendors and take photos. Their site says to expect about four hours of yoga practice, and they encourage participants to go at their own pace and take breaks if needed. The event is open to everyone age 16 and up and all levels and styles of practicers are welcome—there will be hands-assisted volunteers to make sure you are in the correct poses. Make sure to bring your own mat though, as the event will not provide any.
To date, the event has already raised $289,013.98 and continues to rise with a fundraising goal of $500,000. Register as an individual, start a team, or join a team and roll out your yoga mat for a great cause.
$250 fundraising requirement, Sunday, April 29, 9 a.m., Gillette Stadium Empower Field House, 1 Patriot Place, Foxboro, fundraise.childrenshospital.org.
