It's called Frost Fit, and if you show up you'll get hot chocolate and bagels.

The best thing about summer in the city has got to be all the free fitness initiatives hosted everywhere from the Pru to the Seaport, and of course, the Esplanade. The winter months tend to be a little sparse for free outdoor fitness opportunities, except for those who are prepping for the Marathon. But this year, the Esplanade Association doesn’t want you to feel the stuffiness of cabin fever for too long—they’re rolling out their first ever free winter fitness series on February 2.

The series, which will be called Frost Fit and was created in partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield, will take place in the large field in front of the DCR Hatch Shell every Saturday morning in February from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. (with snow dates on March 2 and March 9, since this is Boston). November Project leaders will put on a workout for participants that may include running loops, body-weight exercises, and other moves designed to keep your blood going and your heart rate up. You are encouraged to dress in layers and bring your own mat if you want it.

And for all those die-hard fitness fanatics who drag themselves out of bed in the cold, your efforts will be rewarded with Frost Fit Winter Series fleece headbands (for the first 450 participants), bagels, coffee, and hot chocolate.

“We are proud to partner with the Esplanade Association on the Frost Fit Winter Series,” Jeff Bellows, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts vice president of corporate citizenship and public affairs, said in a press release. “This series will remind people throughout Boston that they can enjoy our city’s parks no matter the season and encourage them to safely exercise outside, even in the depths of winter. Participants will learn the value of year-round exercise, helping to build healthy habits that last a lifetime.”

To close out the series, the Esplanade is planning an outdoor celebration in March, the date is still to be determined, and the information on the workout will be released soon.
