The Esplanade comes alive in the summer. It’s about all you can do not to collide with other runners, bikers, and a whole bunch of cute puppies. Take advantage of all the Esplanade has to offer in the summer, including the Esplanade Association’s free outdoor fitness series that was just announced on Monday.

The series, coined the River Fit Summer Fitness Series, begins July 16 and runs until September 5. Returning again this year are Zumba and sunset yoga. Zumba, hosted by Healthworks, takes place every Tuesday at 6 p.m. in front of the Hatch Shell. The class includes dancing to Latin rhythms combined with interval and resistance training. Sara DiVello is hosting sunset yoga on Thursdays at Fiedler Field beginning at 6 p.m. The flow consists of poses to calm, reduce stress, and increase body awareness. Not to mention, there will be great views of sailboats and people on the water.

New to the series this year is Lynx Fitness Club. Trainers from the 2018 Best of Boston winning gym will lead you through a high intensity interval training workout filled with functional moves, like squats, push ups, and deadlifts. Classes are held on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. at Fiedler Field.

Each class is free and open to the public but advanced registration is encouraged online. Outdoor classes are dependent on the weather and in case of inclement weather a decision will be made via Twitter by 2 p.m.

And if you’re looking for more summer activities along the Charles River this season consider renting a kayak, going fishing, or joining up with a run club. It’s even a great spot for a date night and with the Night Shift Owl’s Nest beer garden located right off the Dartmouth footbridge, it’s even better for a relaxing drink post-workout.

Free, July 16-September 5, Tuesdays-Thursdays, 6 p.m., Hatch Shell, 47 David G Mugar Way, Boston, esplanade.org
