Joseph P. Rockers is co-chair of Goodwin’s Financial Services Litigation & Investigations practice and a member of the firm’s Complex Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Risk Management & Insurance groups. Mr. Rockers is a first chair trial attorney who has represented clients in numerous arbitrations and trials at various locations across the country.
Among his signature matters, Mr. Rockers has represented numerous insurance carriers in connection with litigation, arbitration, and other coverage disputes, including bad faith litigation. He has also successfully represented majority shareholders in a business valuation litigation that resulted in a successful ruling for the shareholders after arbitration, and an asset manager in a breach-of-contract and business tort litigation that resulted in a successful ruling for the asset manager following arbitration. Finally, Mr. Rockers successfully represented a commercial airline in a breach-of-contract dispute that resulted in a successful ruling for the airline after week-long trial in federal court.
A highly sought-after speaker and writer, much of Mr. Rockers’ recent thought leadership has addressed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on commercial contracts, insurance, and reopening issues for businesses. Prior to joining Goodwin, Mr. Rockers served as a law clerk to the Honorable J.L. Edmondson, then-Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Mr. Rockers focuses his practice on representing major insurance carriers and private entities, including financial services, private equity, and venture capital firms, in complex business disputes, including representations and warranties, directors and officers, and other complex coverage matters and litigations for insurance carriers, and post-closing, corporate governance, business torts, indemnification, class actions, restrictive covenant, and a wide range of other commercial matters for private entities.
Mr. Rockers earned his J.D. cum laude from Boston University School of Law and his B.A. from Dartmouth College.
In 2018 and 2019, Mr. Rockers was named to Benchmark Litigation’s 40 & Under Hot List. In 2014 and 2015, he was recognized as a New England Rising Star by Super Lawyers Magazine.
