On Friday, September 21, 2018, 400 supporters of Gosnold came together for the annual Gosnold Legacy Gala at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. Gosnold is a 46-year-old Massachusetts nonprofit focused on addictive disease and mental health. The event was held during Recovery Month and honored Governor Charlie Baker with Gosnold’s 2018 Legacy Award for his multidimensional response to the opiod epidemic in Massachusetts. Former Boston Celtic and Gosnold Alum, Chris Herren, was honored with the 2018 Community Leadership Award. Herren has worked tirelessly to sustain his recovery and support others in recovery, while removing the stigma of addiction by sharing his own experiences. Mayor Marty Walsh, another distinguished Gosnold alumnus, received this honor last year.

The evening’s special guest speaker was A&E Investigates host and former ABC News 20/20 anchor, Elizabeth Vargas. Vargas spoke openly about her personal battle with severe anxiety and multiple rehab visits before sustaining her recovery several years ago. Her message was in line with Gosnold’s efforts to promote treatment of the dual diagnosis of addictive disease and mental health disorders. Vargas emphasized that recovery is possible and lauded Gosnold for its efforts.

WCVB-TV anchor and medical reporter, Emily Reimer, emceed the event. Guests explored the JFK Library’s exhibits before enjoying a lively reception, featuring a variety of dishes generously provided by Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse, Temazcal Tequila Cantina, Tuscan Kitchen, the Seaport Hotel & World Trade Center, and Montilio’s Baking Company. Proceeds from the event will benefit Gosnold’s innovative initiatives, which include prevention, community intervention, school-based services, and recovery coaching.
