On Friday, February 8, the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center (BCNC), a social service provider for more than 8,000 Asians and new immigrants in Greater Boston, kicked off its year-long 50th anniversary celebration with a traditional tea ceremony held at the Pao Arts Center, Chinatown’s first community arts center.
The Tea Ceremony is an important experience in Chinese culture where tea is served as a sign of welcoming, hospitality, and community. A Tea Master will led the ceremony with local leaders and members of the Greater Boston Asian community including Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, and Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch. The Tea Ceremony is the first in a series of events that BCNC is hosting to reflect on their history of creating pathways to brighter futures and stronger communities, celebrate the countless individuals who have supported their work, and honor their forward-looking mission of empowerment, innovation, and impact.
