Anything Manny Can Do, Papi Can Do Better
It seems erstwhile Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez is not the only one taking advantage of the world wide web to sell his unwanted cars. David Ortiz is selling his 2005 Mercedes SL-Class SL65 AMG on eBay.
The bidding for Big Papi’s ride is already up to $169,000 and sure to grow now that boston.com, wbz and everyone else is all over it. It’s kind of old hat for jocks with million-dollar contracts to sell their stuff, but this is still pretty funny:
Not only are you securing your chance to sit behind the wheel of what critics have referred to as the “fantasy convertible” but this is a chance to own a piece of Red Sox history. This dream car belongs to David Ortiz, aka Big Papi, of the Boston Red Sox. This was a gift to himself after winning the 2004 World Series and was his prized possession over the past two years. This car has been pampered for its short life, taking Big Papi back and forth to Fenway Park. The car has a little over 4,000 miles on it and has been always dealer serviced and is in immaculate, showroom condition.
Not sure how owning one of Ortiz’s cars equates with owning a piece of Red Sox history, but what the hell, they sell everything else with a Sox emblem on it so why shouldn’t the players take advantage of fake nostalgia.
UPDATE: Apparently no one made a real bid on Big Papi’s pride and joy.
