We are Shocked; Shocked We Tell You

1193239904To paraphrase Homer Simpson: Mmm, Schadenfreude.

We don’t need to tell you that as glorious as the sporting scene has been here in Boston lately, it’s been that bad in New York. Between the hapless Jets (Stop Snitchin!), Isiah Thomas’s opinion on whom may call whom a “bitch,” and the Yankees’ demise (complete with Joe Torre saga), you might say that New York hasn’t looked this bad since before Rudy Giuliani so famously cleaned the city up.

But oh, Rudy, what hath thou wrought now?

For those of you who haven’t heard, the former mayor and current presidential candidate has declared that he will be rooting for the Red Sox in the World Series. For those of us who have grown familiar with the sight of a Yankee-capped Giuliani sitting behind the backstop at just about every Sox/Yankees game, that’s a little bit like hearing that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has suddenly decided not only that he loves America, but that San Francisco is his favorite city.

Naturally, New Yorkers feel betrayed and scandalized. Check out the front pages of the NY Post and Daily News today. Bonus points to the Post staff for dressing Rudy up in Red Sox garb. Well, at least this makes up for all the crap our New York “friends” gave us over that time Tom Brady may, or may not, have been caught wearing a Yankees hat (it’s hard to remember exactly what happened, I’ve repressed the incident from my memory).

It’s a Red Sox world now. Rudy and everyone else is just living in it.
