The Revolution Continues
Our boy, Ron Paul, had a great week. His campaign raised $4 million in online donations on Tuesday, bringing with it the media coverage he so desperately needed. We’d also like to think the Texas Congressman was also overjoyed that we endorsed him as Fringe Candidate for President. It looks like the fun won’t be ending anytime soon, as his supporters want to hold another revolutionary-themed fundraising event, based on our city’s history.
The Globe reports that the supporters who detonated a “money bomb” for Paul aren’t done yet.
A donation day in the works will apparently be tied to another historical event — the Boston Tea Party on Dec. 16, 1773, when patriots dumped tea into Boston Harbor to protest taxation without representation. . . . Paul is trying to raise $12 million this quarter so he can buy TV time and compete in the early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire.
Paul’s spokeswoman can’t confirm that this is actually happening, since it’s being arranged by supporters and not the campaign itself, but it sounds like a great idea. What is more synonymous with the American Revolution than the Boston Tea Party? (Maybe the Gaspee Affair in Rhode Island, but that happened in June.)
We can only hope the candidate himself shows up to celebrate the dawn of Revolution in person. Call us if you come to Boston, Congressman Paul. We’ll take you over to the Tea Party Museum and buy you a nice lunch.
