Budweiser Saves Christmas
We don’t mean that in the “without this case of beer, I would kill all my relatives” sense. The brewer saved the day by donating a truck to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Middlesex County so the agency could collect donations from Toys for Tots. Which is heartwarming, if a little strange to think of beer-toting Clydesdales bringing gifts, instead of Santa Claus and the reindeer.
The organization got word yesterday that their toys were ready, but they’d have to pick them all up in South Boston by early afternoon. Cue the Mission: Impossible theme.
“I was ecstatic that we were getting our toys,” [executive director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Middlesex County Michilia] Eng said. “Until they said we had to get them today. We had no truck and no manpower to pick it up by 1:30!”
But thankfully, the beer company saved the day for the tots.
Calls went out to several people and local organizations, such as Tufts University and SCM Transportation, both of which were ready to send drivers, volunteers and vans to South Boston to pick up the toys. And then Tony called.
Tony Giglio, that is. A member of the club’s board of directors and current secretary, Giglio called Eng to tell her he was on his way to the pickup location — with a volunteer driver and van donated by Budweiser in Medford.
Sure, those iPods and Hannah Montana dolls might be a little sticky, but those kids have found their beer. Once they’re of legal age to drink, of course.
