When people talk about having children, they often think of the cute aspects of parenthood. The smell of a newborn baby. The thrill of hearing a child say “mama” for the first time. That maiden voyage on the school bus.
But parenthood has a side that you don’t see until it’s too late. The whining, the crying, the fact that your child won’t eat anything until it’s smothered in ketchup. And odds are, you’re going to end up at Chuck E. Cheese for a birthday party.
But that doesn’t mean you should take your anger out on another parent.
On Saturday, the scene at the Natick Chuck E. Cheese sounded more like a post-Sox/Yanks game at the Cask than a family-friendly birthday party when two parents got into a fight.
Two Boston-area moms are being summoned to court after police say they got into a fistfight at Chuck E. Cheese Saturday when one woman’s son “hogged” an arcade game from the other’s 9-year-old birthday boy.
“Unfortunately, a birthday night out turned into a birthday melee,” police Sgt. Paul Thompson said. “I don’t even know if they finished their pizza.”
The pizza at Chuck E. Cheese? That’s not much of a loss. And if we recall correctly from our childhood experience, the show that’s performed by the stuffed rat and his animatronic brethren isn’t much better. We’d guess the kids had a better time watching the two mothers brawl than they would have if the evening went off without a hitch.
