When Wildlife Strikes: Fenway Edition

As some readers may remember, John Gonzalez nearly died after a vicious bird attack back in January. We had our fun with the terrified city-dweller, but figured it was a rare occurrence.

But no. The birds have struck again. This time, they’ve used Fenway Park as their hunting ground.

And they’re preying on someone even weaker than our pal Gonz.

A red-tailed hawk lost its choice seat behind home plate at Fenway Park today after the raptor scratched a middle school girl on a tour, drawing blood from her eyebrow.

The girl was in the upper deck behind home plate, some 40 feet from the hawk’s nest, where a single egg lay in an overhang near the press booth. The hawk had been perched on a railing and swooped at the girl with its talons extended.

Don’t worry, kid. If you’re anything like Gonz, a Hannah Montana Band-Aid and a couple of weeks in therapy will have you back to normal. And if you play your cards right, you you might be able to get some great pity seats from the Sox.
