The Man Who Will Not Be Vice President

Mitt Romney is not a man who is known for his sense of self-awareness, but even he knows that he is not going to be Vice President. If he had any hope at all of being the Dick Cheney to John McCain’s President Bush, he wouldn’t be talking in such absolutes about not being on McCain’s short list of potential running mates.

Back in November, Moral Majority co-founder Paul Weyrich gave Romney a glowing endorsement. Now Weyrich is speaking out against our former governor, and has signed an open letter that warns McCain not to choose Romney as a running mate due to his abrupt adoption of socially conservative values.

“If Governor Romney is on your ticket, many social conservative voters will consider their values repudiated by the Republican Party and either stay away from the polls this November or only vote down the ticket,” they write in a message posted online by a political action committee called “Government is Not God.”

Local Romney foe Brian Camenker also signed the letter.

To quote Bill Clinton, you guys need to chill out. The only way Romney’s getting near the White House is on a sightseeing tour of D.C. Now you’re just picking on him.
