Lynn City Councilor: ‘I’m Embarrassed’
This morning, we alerted you to the beef between Lynn city councilor Rick Ford and WRKO host Reese Hopkins. Ford said he’d “like to slap [Hopkins] in the mouth” and challenged the host to a boxing match after he called Ford’s beloved North Shore town “a dump.”
While Hopkins remains defiant, Councilor Ford tells Boston Daily he feels bad about the way he expressed pride in his city.
“I’m embarrassed,” Ford told us. “I wish I wasn’t hot when I called him.”
He said that he left the message on show producer Cooksey’s cell phone, and didn’t know it would be played on the air ad nauseum. Ford hopes to appear on the show tomorrow morning to apologize for his remarks and defend the city Hopkins described as “a teenage pregnancy away from being Gloucester.”
“I want to talk to him, and ask him if he’s ever been to Lynn. If he’s walked along the shore or seen everything else we have to offer,” Ford says.
The 52-year-old councilor, who does like to put on the gloves and hit the pads at the boxing club, said he might consider a fight with the radio host for charity.
