Replacing John and Elizabeth Edwards

1220469754Late yesterday, word came down that philanderer and former presidential hopeful John Edwards and his wife Elizabeth won’t appear at Salem State College on Sept. 23. Just as we expected Ted Kennedy would speak at the DNC, we figured it was only a matter of time before the scandal-plagued couple broke their engagement.

But the school still hopes to find another speaker for its long-running lecture series, which features notable politicians, sports stars, and members of the media. After the jump, we suggest some high-profile couples we’d love to hear from.

Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen
The couple has been notoriously tight-lipped about their relationship, but maybe they’d feel more comfortable in an academic setting, rather than when they’re being hounded by paparazzi.

Tom Brady and Will McDonough
This bromance for the ages is well worth examining further.

Barack and Michelle Obama
In a press release, we learned that Mrs. Obama will appear on Paula’s Party, the Food Network talk show starring the queen of heart-stopping southern food, Paula Deen. Also appearing on the Sept. 20 season premiere? Maury Povich and Connie Chung.

The idol of elitist liberal mothers-slash-career women everywhere is going to have to restore her cred with her base, and what better way do to that than to speak at a Boston-area college only three days after pandering connecting with Red State voters?

Heidi Watney and Jerry Remy
Rumor has it that the Rem-Dawg can’t stand NESN’s new sidelines reporter. Get these two together under the guise of discussing sports media, and let’s get to the bottom of it.

Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston
The Edwards’ have been a political power couple for ages, but these teenagers are the duo we’d be most like to see. Who better to give us a glimpse into the controversial McCain vetting process than the girl who’s suffered the most from its result? And if Bristol won’t talk, we bet her hockey-playing boyfriend will be more forthcoming once he’s out of the crosshairs of Sarah Palin’s shotgun.
