Barney Frank’s Greatest Hits
Well, it looks like the American economy will continue to fall apart this weekend. President Bush is standing at the front of the classroom like an ineffective substitute teacher, trying to project an aura of authority while the unruly Congress continues to ignore him and bicker amongst themselves.
These are scary times. But since we believe in laughing to keep ourselves from sobbing, let’s look at the bright side. Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank has been killing it this week.
Whether you think the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee helped get us into this mess or you believe he’ll be the one to save us, he’s been a one-man quote machine. Let’s take a look at his best work.
From the Christian Science Monitor:
On McCain’s decision to suspend his campaign: “It’s the longest Hail Mary pass in the history of either football or Marys[.]”
From the AP:
“[A]ll of a sudden, now that we are on the verge of making a deal, John McCain airdrops himself to help us make the deal.”
From Wonkette (yeah, we really just like the accompanying picture):
“[McCain] hasn’t been involved. He doesn’t know anything about it.”
“McCain is Andy Kaufman in his Mighty Mouse costume – ‘Here I Come to Save the Day[.]'”
From Taiwan News:
“We’re going to have to interrupt a negotiating session tomorrow between the Democrats and Republicans on a bill where I think we are getting pretty close, and troop down to the White House for their photo op,” said Frank, the House Financial Services Committee chairman. “I wish they’d checked with us.”
“I didn’t know I was going to be the referee for an internal GOP ideological civil war[.]”
It’s been fun. But anytime Congress wants to pass some bailout legislation and put a stop to the madness, we’ll just watch some South Park reruns to amuse ourselves.
