If you’re sticking around Boston this summer, it’s time to embrace your inner camera-happy tourist. Finding Boston’s photogenic side isn’t as simple as it seems — the trick is knowing where (and when) to go to get postcard-worthy pix. “Timing, weather and professional technique are all important,” says local photographer Steve Dunwell. Here, Dunwell shares how to capture shots from nine of the city’s most spectacular viewpoints:

Charles River Settle in on the west side of the Longfellow Bridge during the summer, between late afternoon and dusk. The breezes are light, but strong enough to playfully push the sailboats across the water.

Public Garden Every season is rich in the Garden — even snowscapes are stunning — but go during the springtime. Think green grass and golden tulips; Swan Boats and nesting swans. You can get a clear view of the Lagoon Bridge from Boylston Street.

Boston Skyline Head east on Memorial Drive and slow down near MIT. Stop opposite the Sloan School of Management. Look up.

Boston Harbor Stop at the Airport Hyatt Hotel’s ferry dock promenade on a still day in October or November to take in the vibrant sunsets mirroring off the water.

Fenway Park Buy a ticket in the left or right mezzanine. The ballpark’s soft green palette pops best under the stadium lights during summer evenings, and the Citgo sign brightens any backdrop.

North End The neighborhood is at its liveliest during festival weekends in August. Saint Anthony’s feast (held August 26 – 29) is New England’s largest Italian religious festival and one of the North End’s oldest — and most cherished — celebrations. Follow the elaborate processions along parade routes to get the most animated action shots.

Commonwealth Avenue Don’t miss the blooming magnolias between Exeter and Fairfield Streets in mid-April. It sounds counterintuitive, but cloudy mornings will best reveal the delicate cotton-candy colors.

The Boston HarborWalk Find the gazebo at the end of the pier at Piers Park in Eastie. Summer mornings with light winds and clouds are a plus.

The Cottage Farm Bridge Stand on the east side of the Boston University Bridge in autumn to see the rowers slice through the reflection of the sunrise.
