Daily Feed: Welcome Back to Reality, Boston Bruins

Welcome Back to Reality, Boston Bruins. Kinda, sorta. Because not just any team in the NHL gets to start the season opener by raising the freaking baddest banner in pro hockey in their arena before the puck drops. Still, the visiting Philadelphia Flyers, along with team traitor Jaromir Jagr, were just too much last night for the reigning Stanley Cup champs, who lost 2-1. [ESPN]

… But There’s Another Kind, a Harsher Reality for the NHL. Boston University Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy examined the brain of Rick Martin, the seven-time NHL All-Star who played mostly in Buffalo, and found that he suffered from CTE, a disease linked to head trauma. If the NHL (and NFL, for that matter) want to start using their heads to enforce the enforcers, now would be as good of a time as any. [TIME]

Occupy Movement Hits the Well-Thinking at Harvard. They’ve caught Barack Obama’s attention, and some Tea Partiers are getting kind of irked by them, too. But the Occupy movement is starting to gain footing across the country’s college campuses — locally to Northeastern and, now, Harvard. [Harvard Crimson]

Scott Brown Graduated from the School of Hard Knocks. As the details swirled the internet yesterday afternoon of Brown trading jabs with Elizabeth Warren about who kept clothes on and who didn’t in order to pay for school, perhaps even more amusing is Brown’s attempt to deflect his Cosmo-centerfold-turned-modeling career.

“Listen, bottom line is I didn’t go to Harvard,” Brown said during an interview with WZLX. “You know, I went to the school of hard knocks. And I did whatever I had to do to pay for school.”

So there you have it, kids. $54,474-per-year Tufts and $54,528-per-year Boston College are for the biggest hard-knocks in America … like Scott Brown. Come on, Scott. Just laugh it off already. [Slate]
