John Kerry Demands Retraction from Houghton Mifflin

We all sort of know that politicians use their clout to enrich themselves, and sometimes their states, but now we have the beginnings of proof.

Citing an implied and unfair link between his Congressional appointments and his stock-investment portfolio, John Kerry demanded that Houghton Mifflin, publisher of Peter Schweizer’s book “Throw Them All Out,” retract information he characterizes as “beyond inaccurate.” The Boston Herald has the story this morning.

On “60 Minutes” Schweizer described his project, which examined a potential link between political power and stock-market investing. He stopped short of accusing Kerry of insider trading, but reportedly told the Herald there “a curious pattern to Kerry’s stock transactions that often correlated with his committee activities.”

Schweizer apparently called for a larger investigation. I’ll second that.
