Emerson College Goes Hollywood
Color me jealous. Not only do the kids at Emerson have the best college radio station around, now they’re also getting a brand new facility on Sunset Boulevard, aka Emerson L.A. The school has had a residential internship and study program on the Left Coast for the past 25 years, so a permanent physical space makes sense.
Thom Mayne of Morphosis Architects designed the roughly 125,000-square-foot building, which will include classrooms, student housing, an auditorium, and a cafe. It’s scheduled to open in fall 2014.
The Fonz, an Emerson alumnus, will be the Master of Ceremonies at today’s groundbreaking (Mayne, Mayor of Los Angeles Antonio Villaraigosa, Emerson President Lee Pelton, and other bold facers will also be in attendance). Didn’t book a plane ticket in time? You can watch the entire thing online, starting at 1:40 p.m. (EST).
