Police Investigating Suicide Aboard Red Sox Owner’s Yacht

They say a man went into cardiac arrest and later died.

Boston Police are investigating the apparent suicide of a crew member aboard Red Sox owner John Henry’s boat.

According to police, officers and emergency responders were called to the boat, the Iroquois, around 12 p.m. Monday. “It appears there was a medical emergecny, and now it is a death investigation,” according to a spokesperson from the Boston Police Department. The yacht was docked behind the Boston Harbor Hotel, at 30 Rowes Wharf.

Police said the subject was a male between the ages of 28 and 30. They said he went into cardiac arrest while on board the ship, and later died. The death is being considered a suicide at this time.

The Red Sox issued a statement on behalf of Henry and the team, and said they were “saddened” by the information and sent their condolences to the man’s family. “Earlier today, a crew member on the vessel, M/Y Iroquois, apparently took his life aboard the vessel docked…behind the Boston Harbor Hotel. Apparently only crew members were on board the vessel when the incident occurred,” the statement said.

WCVB reported that Police Commissioner Ed Davis was aboard the 164-foot vessel during the investigation. The boat, they said, was for sale for $27 million.
