Rep. Jeffrey Sanchez Getting MassDems Chair Buzz
A new name is circulating in the search for a new chairman of the Massachusetts Democratic Party: state representative Jeffrey Sanchez of Jamaica Plain.
“I have been talking to folks, that’s pretty much it,” Sanchez told me today, declining to describe himself as a potential candidate for the job. He says he’s mostly listening to what fellow Democrats think about what the state party needs going forward.
But state committee members say there’s a growing buzz about Sanchez. He impressed many with his national travels in support of President Barack Obama’s re-election last year. And, while many committee members remain wary of Bostonians—who they think have too much influence already—they are equally intrigued by the allure of naming the state party’s first Hispanic chair.
Sanchez would also need to weigh the effect the role would have on the time he spends with his two young children—a consideration that helped turn him away from entering the mayoral race, he says.
