A Guy From Southie Wearing a Pink Fedora Sets the Record Straight About The Boston Accent
As the city struggles to cope with the news that Ben Affleck will be playing Batman in an upcoming project alongside Superman, set for release in 2015, one Southie resident took the opportunity, during an interview about his thoughts on the actor’s new role, to set the record straight about the Boston accent, and lingo used by locals.
“F*** Ben Affleck,” said a self-proclaimed Southie resident, during a segment posted to YouTube by the “Screen Junkies,” called “Ben Affleck as Batman? Boston Fans React!”
The host of the YouTube clip walked the streets of Los Angeles, the day of an LA Dodgers game against the Red Sox, and asked Boston fans for their thoughts about the Affleck news.
But what the host got —besides the obvious overreactions— was an earful from the South Boston native, who decried the use of words like “pissah,” and how the term “wicked” is thrown around, instead.
Donning a pink fedora and a silver chain, the Southie resident’s opinion about Affleck’s latest endeavor fell in line with the general population, calling it “a f******* waste,” and comparing it to Affleck’s defunct role in the “Daredevil” superhero flick.
Beyond that, the fedora-wearer wouldn’t answer questions lobbed to him by the host, because he used the stereotypical terminology that Hollywood always seems to pair together with Boston— including things like ‘Pahk the Cah in Hahvahd Yahd.”
Around the 1:30 mark, the Southie resident, after reluctantly answering where one actually does park a car in Harvard’s Yard, said his answer was not representative of Boston, and then went on to tell the world to quit type-casting the accent. “We don’t even say that. Or ‘wicked,’ or ‘pissah,’” he said. “I don’t know who started that, but wicked and pissah ain’t anything I have ever said.”
The host apparently didn’t get the message, and proceeded to ask the Southie resident if Affleck would be a “wicked pissah Batman.”
The result?
“F*** wicked pissah, f*** Ben Affleck, and f*** Batman if you really want to know the truth,” the Boston man said.
