EMILY’s List Is Endorsing Maura Healey and Deb Goldberg

This could be key.

I have learned that EMILY’s List, the national organization promoting women candidates, will endorse both Maura Healey for Attorney General and Deb Goldberg for Treasurer today, in their Democratic primaries.

The move could be key as both candidates try to make up fundraising ground against their opponenents. Healey trails Warren Tolman in contributions and cash on hand, while Goldberg is behind Barry Finegold.

EMILY’s List has already endorsed Martha Coakley for Governor—although that has not, so far, helped her erase a fundraising gap with Steve Grossman.

But the endorsement can also pay dividends through EMILY’s List’s independent expenditure arm. That entity spent close to $150,000, mostly on direct mail, to help Katherine Clark win her Congressional primary last October.

In addition to Healey’s civil rights record, EMILY’s List will emphasize that she would be the first openly gay state attorney general in America. Rights group MassEquality has also endorsed Healey.
