The anticipated trailer for the feature-length film following the Boston Marathon has finally been released. The documentary titled Boston will arrive in theaters in late 2015.
Unlike many of the other TV docs based on the marathon and the bombings, this documentary is being made in a direct agreement with the Boston Athletic Association and production company LA Roma Films, according to a BAA press release.
Boston will tell the story of the Boston Marathon from its first race in 1897 to present day, including a recount of the tragedies of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings. It will go into detail about how the race captures the spirit of individuals in the Boston community, and will give an in-depth behind-the-scenes look at major organizational efforts. Interviews with race director David McGillivray will be included, as well as with Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to run the Boston Marathon as a numbered entry.
Boston is directed by Jon Dunham, an award-winning filmmaker/marathoner of the well-known Spirit of the Marathon films. Academy Award nominee Megan Williams is an executive producer.
“We are fortunate to be working with Jon Dunham and LA Roma Films on this project,” said Joann Flaminio, president of the BAA, said in the press release. “Their unique and extensive understanding and knowledge of the marathon promises to make Boston a highly anticipated film experience.”
