Zdeno Chara and the Bruins Visited Boston Children’s as Gru and His Minions

By ·

Each year, the Bruins stop by Boston Children’s Hospital for Halloween clad in hilariously ill-fitting costumes for a wonderful cause. Past hits have included Zdeno Chara as Frank from Donnie Darko, Dougie Hamilton and Torey Krug as Elsa and Olaf and from Disney’s Frozen, and Jordan Caron as a tic-tac-toe board.

This year, the B’s dressed up as characters from Dreamworks’ Despicable Me, with Chara as either Steve Carell’s Gru or the Tom Brady courtroom sketch, and Krug, Tuukka Rask, David Krejci, and Dorchester native Jimmy Hayes as Minions, the pill-shaped, gibberish-speaking hominids. The team visited with patients, signed a few autographs, and shared a few laughs.

The guys meeting Jose!

Yup, that’s Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender Tuukka Rask as a French maid Minion. Hayes, meanwhile, opted for what appears to be portly corporate Amish Minion, a classic.

Meanwhile, Matt Beleskey joined Mayor Marty Walsh in City Hall Plaza to present a $25,000 check to Build Our Kids’ Success (BOKS) on behalf of the Bruins Foundation. A street hockey game broke out, and team mascot Blades even nae-nae’d for the occasion.
