Cranberry Truck Crash Bogs Down Traffic on Sagamore Bridge

A head-on crash involving a cranberry truck on Cape Cod’s Sagamore Bridge closed traffic in both directions Friday morning and left one person with serious injuries, according to Bourne police. The bridge was reopened after two hours.

Police responded to the scene around 6:30 a.m., the Cape Cod Times reports. Cranberries were spilled all over the roadway as a result of the crash.

One person was taken to Rhode Island with serious injuries, while a second person with minor injuries declined transport, according to state police.

The cranberry crop is Massachusetts’ most valuable agricultural commodity, with a total annual value $99.8 million. More than 6,900 jobs in the state are tied to the cranberry industry.
