Part of the Charles Hotel Ice Rink Has Gone Missing

It looks like there won’t be ice skating this season.

The Charles Hotel in Cambridge won’t be hosting any ice skaters this winter—unless part of its ice rink can be found.

The rink, which is divided into three parts for storage, is kept in trailers in southern New Hampshire in the offseason. This month, the hotel staff was notified that one of the trailers was missing. That means one-third of the rink is M.I.A., rendering the other two-thirds useless.

The Charles Hotel has provided a spot for wobbly skaters and more experienced gliders alike for a decade. This season would have been its 11th consecutive year in the skating tradition.

“While we are saddened by the loss, our team at The Charles Hotel is more concerned about the activity void this will create for our community,” said General Manager Alex Attia. “We are putting our heads together to come up with some fun ideas to bring the community back together—a challenge we hope to meet by next season.”

Whether or not the Grinch is to blame, police are currently investigating the case. Anyone with information about the missing ice rink parts is urged to call The Charles Hotel at 617-864-1200.
