Rex Ryan Impersonates Reporter, Asks Julian Edelman If He’ll Play QB

Meet 'Walt Patulski.'

Over the years, Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan has employed a variety of tactics to try to get inside Bill Belichick’s head. But none have been quite as creative as impersonating a member of the media.

Enter “Walt Patulski” of the Buffalo News.

Ryan hijacked a conference call with Patriots wide-receiver Julian Edelman to ask, with Tom Brady suspended and backups Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett injured, if he will play quarterback. After all, Edelman played QB for Kent State.

Edelman didn’t understand Patulski’s question at first, then said: “I’m going to do whatever the coaches ask me to do. If they ask me to go out and give a glass of water to someone on the sideline, I’ll do that.”

Ryan could see a fine for this bit of subterfuge, as the NFL has rules against opposing coaches communication with players. For now, Patulski will just have to anxiously await his buyout.
