It's a nice thought, isn't it?

Following a contentious presidential election that Gov. Charlie Baker chose not to vote in, Baker issued a statement calling for president-elect Donald Trump to bring the nation together.

The lifelong Republican cast a blank ballot this year, refusing to support Trump or Hillary Clinton. Rather than congratulate Trump on his win, Baker spoke of his hopes for Trump’s term.

“The people of Massachusetts deserve a federal government that works collaboratively to solve or nation’s problems and it is my hope that president-elect Donald Trump works quickly to unite our country after a divisive election,” reads Baker’s statement, issued early Wednesday morning.

Baker plans to work with the Trump administration come January.

“Our administration is eager to partner with the next administration to tackle the most pressing issues for our state, region and country,” he said.
