Elizabeth Warren: Trump’s ‘Inviting the Biggest, Ugliest Swamp Monsters’

'It is sickening, and we will fight back.'

Sen. Elizabeth Warren castigated President-Elect Donald Trump on the floor of the Senate Thursday, for appointing to his incoming administration the “worst kind of DC insiders and special interests.”

“It is barely a week, but we have already seen disgusting ideas emerge from Trump Tower: put a white supremacist in the White House, float a plan to register all Muslim Americans, draw up plans to round up millions of human beings and rip families apart across this nation,” an irate Warren said. “It is sickening, and we will fight back.”

This week, Trump appointed Steve Bannon, his campaign director and architect of the racist, misogynist, anti-LGBTQ, antisemitic site Breitbart News, to a senior adviser and strategist role in the White House. The entire Massachusetts and Rhode Island delegations were among the 169 House members who signed a letter demanding Bannon’s removal Wednesday.

In an interview with 60 Minutes Sunday, his first as president-elect, Trump called for the mass deportation of up to 3 million undocumented immigrants. He said that women seeking an abortion would simply have to “go to another state” if Roe v. Wade were overturned, a statement that Boston Mayor Marty Walsh called “absurd.”

In an interview with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly, Trump surrogate and former Navy SEAL Carl Higbie said the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II would serve as “precedent” for a registry of Muslims Americans. Trump is expected to appoint retired Lt. General Mike Flynn, who once tweeted that “fear of Muslims is RATIONAL,” as his top security adviser.

“But hey, at least he promised to shake up our corrupt political system, right?” Warren said. “Trump is not draining the swamp, nope. He’s inviting the biggest, ugliest swamp monsters in the front door, and he’s turning them loose on our government and our economy.”
