Two Snow Storms Are Headed for Boston This Weekend

On February 2, Punxsutawney Phil sparked hope in New Englanders sick of cold and gray days with his promise of early spring. But serves us right for listening to a groundhog.

Boston is bracing for another nasty storm this weekend, and this time it’s going to be messy. The National Weather Service predicts that heavy, sticky snow will move in late Friday evening and stay through Sunday morning, covering Thursday’s beautiful fluffy snow before it has a chance to melt. Happy March. At least our annual Malt Madness bracket is back?

Saturday’s storm may be a late candidate for Boston’s first real nor’easter of the season. The city will be getting around six inches through the weekend, but those in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island could see up to nine. This is on top of the 4-inch dusting Boston got starting Wednesday night. It seems like spring is nowhere in sight.

Just when you thought the north shore and central Massachusetts were catching a break, Sunday’s storm is supposed to bring first snow, then a wintry mix to the interior.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Suffolk County starting in the wee hours of Saturday morning and lasting until 4 p.m. As long as the snow waits its turn, Friday’s commute home shouldn’t be affected by anything other than the occasional angry driver. People looking to skip town should expect flight delays from Logan Saturday morning and into the afternoon.

More snow moves in tomorrow. Looks like 4-6”, will be wetter and heavier than the last batch. Of course it’s on a weekend, so no Snow Day from this one 🙁

Yet another system after that could impact Monday morning commute!

The weekend forecast is disappointing to school kids looking to scrape a few more snow days out of what’s so far been a pretty mild winter for New England. By Monday morning, the second storm in this wintry one-two punch will have likely made the switch the freezing rain at the most.
