Dexter Southfield teaches beyond the classroom, encouraging students to stretch physically and creatively. Arts and daily athletics exercise each student's body and mind in new and important ways and are core components of the Dexter Southfield experience.

The School's programs are designed to foster community and communication. Whether it's team-building on the playing fields or behind the scenes of a theatrical production, there is an opportunity for all students to grow and learn. In Classes 3 - 5, all students play year-round intramurals, exposing them to the fundamentals of nine different sports and there are myriad ways for students of all ages to enjoy and participate in both visual and performing arts.

Teaching Philosophy

In a warm and rich learning environment, we promote critical thinking and problem solving through our foundational curriculum; sportsmanship and teamwork through broad participation in athletics; and creativity and aesthetic appreciation through the fine and performing arts. With Latin, grammar, and public speaking, students learn to speak and write effectively. In all areas of their life at Dexter Southfield, our students strive for personal best, becoming responsible and thoughtful leaders who can make a difference in the world.

Mission Statement
