The Russian School of Mathematics (RSM) is an award-winning after-school math program for K–12 students. Recently named among the top schools in the world by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, they help children of all levels excel in mathematics. Russian School of Mathematics believes all children are capable of developing a solid foundation in math if it’s taught correctly. By guiding students to derive new concepts based on those they learned before, Russian School of Mathematics promotes understanding over memorization. Algebra is introduced in elementary school, when kids are best at grasping abstract concepts. Russian School of Mathematics asks their youngest students to become thinkers and analysts, encouraging them to discover solutions and reflect on how they reached that solution. Because of this approach, when students are confronted with any problem they don’t recognize, they don’t back down. Instead, they consider different ways they might tackle it. As a result of that philosophy, RSM students have constantly posted remarkable scores on standardized tests and in national and international math competitions and earned admission to the world’s elite universities. Students at RSM also score higher grade-point averages in school and show more confidence, strengthened problem solving, and critical thinking skills. This year, RSM will offer both in-school and virtual classes at its 14 Massachusetts locations.
