Mission Statement

At Roxbury Latin, we care most of all what kind of person a boy is, and we promise to know and love each boy. In designing a vital program, we are alert to what is best and most effective in educating boys, but we also dare to define what is in their best interest. We seek to enroll boys who demonstrate intellectual curiosity, are self-motivated, and have a capacity for hard work. We also look for remarkable qualities—unusual talents, differing perspectives, varied backgrounds—that will enrich and strengthen the community. We cherish our boys for their individuality, and we encourage them to develop their fullest selves with confidence. There are many ways to be a boy at Roxbury Latin.

Teaching Philosophy

The Roxbury Latin School provides an academic setting in which a boy will be challenged and stimulated, and a supportive community in which he will be known and loved. Our passionate, talented, and dedicated faculty work to instill in students a desire to live intentional lives of purpose, characterized by concern for others. Relationships among Roxbury Latin faculty and students are strong: warm, trusting, mutually supportive, and respectful. Faculty encourage boys constantly, in every area of their life at school and beyond; we stand ready to help our students in any way that we can.

Both in and out of the classroom, R.L. boys commit their time and talents widely and generously—on teams and on stages, in art studios and in science labs, in community activities and through service opportunities that extend into the City of Boston and beyond. We bring notable outside speakers to campus regularly, throughout the year, who share their stories, experiences and expertise. Those speakers often include our own distinguished alumni.
