Located on seven acres in Ellington, Connecticut, a cozy English-style castle near state forests and hiking trails makes for a relaxing winter retreat, or an ideal place to start the fifth season of Downton Abbey.

The home was built in 1917 and named Aborn Castle for Harry Aborn, a prominent store owner in Ellington who, after a visit to Europe, became fascinated with the castles of England and decided to replicate their grandeur stateside.

Aborn Castle’s stone exterior has a turret tower and lion statues that keep watch over the property. Regal steps lead to the front entry.

Inside, a large dining room, and a living room with a stone fireplace are located on the lower level. In the kitchen, copper accents and natural light from large windows brighten the space. The sunroom has stone walls and an additional seating area. Upstairs, bedrooms are spacious with double beds and formal decor.

The grounds offer many gardens, and a pond with a fountain and a gazebo. A pergola overlooks a garden space that is guarded by a Medieval-style gargoyle.

With three bedrooms and two full baths, the property is available for rent and can be reserved for special functions.
