Kenmore Square has more space for Red Sox fans, Boston University visitors, mile-25 marathon spectators, and anyone else who wants to experience the neighborhood firsthand with the opening of a new wing at the Hotel Commonwealth earlier this week.

The finished expansion was years in the making, and the results have doubled the size of the iconic hotel with 96 new guest suites.

Extending from the building through an enclosed footbridge, the new wing has generous event and meeting space, including a terrace, as well as a private entrance for social functions.

Many of the new guest rooms have views of the ballpark, but there’s also a Fenway Park Suite made especially for die-hard Red Sox fans. Guests can enjoy a collection of museum-ready memorabilia that includes stadium seats and pieces of the Green Monster at a rate of $1,000 a night.

Architect Group One Partners and New York’s dash design took on the expansion, and chose bold carpets, preppy patterns, and floor-to-ceiling windows to reflect the neighborhood and make the most of the Fenway views.
