This past weekend, Cambridge-based interior designer and shop owner Emily Pinney launched her own furniture line. Part of her motivation, she says, was to give design clients and patrons at Syd + Sam—her Concord Avenue home-goods-and-accessories shop—access to items that are typically only available to interior designers. “Customers were coming in looking for a couch or a chair, not wanting to shop at the larger retailers,” says Pinney, principal of Pinney Designs. “We can offer that through this new collection.”

Manufactured in the U.S., Pinney’s fledgling line currently contains two customizable pieces: the “Sydney” sofa and the “Samantha” swivel chair. Both are exclusively available at Syd + Sam, where the interior designer also offers a curated selection of rugs, throw blankets, furnishings, ceramics, and jewelry. “I wanted to design pieces that are clean and timeless and would fit into any design project, whether it was modern or traditional,” she says. “Launching this furniture line has been a long time coming. I’m excited to share these wonderfully made pieces with my customers.”
