Either-Or: An Airy Cambridge Condo vs. a Sunny South Shore Abode
It’s amazing what a few miles will do to the market. This month, we compare a top-floor unit near the Charles with a chic single-family in Hingham.

There’s something about whitewashed walls and skylights that makes a space feel fresh and bright. That’s definitely the case with these two recently sold, similarly priced homes, and just in time for spring to boot. The first, a condo near the Charles in Cambridge, is anchored by a cheerful eat-in kitchen with open shelving and a Bosch dishwasher and refrigerator. High ceilings give the living area a spacious feel, while a small window with a deep ledge creates the perfect mini-greenhouse environment for growing plants of all kinds.
Down in Hingham, the kitchen is equally breezy, with cathedral ceilings, high-gloss white cabinets, quartzite counters, and a glass backsplash. The room also has a sunny window for growing plants and herbs, though it’s considerably larger than the Cambridge one. In fact, the house itself is almost double the size of the city condo. That’s two times the houseplants to tend to—a pro for the green-thumbed, a con for the rest of us.
