164 Sand Springs Road, Williamstown
Size: 3,655 square feet
Two miles from the Vermont border, this stone and wooden dwelling is probably not what you would expect. Judging by its mountain views and eight wooded acres—not to mention the abutting Trustees preserve—you might anticipate a pretty rustic interior. But from its stainless- and granite-adorned kitchen to its fresh furnishings, this turn of the twentieth century home is very much of this decade.
It doesn’t, however, forget its agrarian landscape in its home design—it’s almost like a hunting lodge got a very glamorous makeover. In the kitchen, a bright blue tile backsplash and illuminated glass cabinets add some brightness to the white cabinets and tile floors. But the stainless apron sink, stationed in front of a bank of windows, is probably the most scenic spot to post up in the room.
The dining room, like many of the other living spaces, makes clever use of wall paneling. Silvery palm front-print wallpaper wraps around the upper third, while wooden panelling takes over the lower section, creating a glamorous vibe. One of the two living rooms features two-toned panelling all around the room, meaning the incredible stone floor-to-ceiling fireplace is the focal point of the lodge-like room. Other spaces, like a bathroom and sitting room, use shiplap in pale colors for a more summery look.
Who says sophisticated design and rustic surroundings are mutually exclusive? Walk outside and over to the untouched Meadow Mountain preserve and you’ll see that elegance and nature actually go hand in hand.
