Renaissance Rhapsody

Interior designer Gina Baran found inspiration in a piece by Leonardo da Vinci, whose untitled landscape sketch—recently discovered by researchers on the back of the legend’s oldest known drawing—led her to craft a classic yet modern space with warm, tactile neutrals.

Taking cues from Jackson Pollock’s Number One, 1950 (Lavender Mist), JN Interior Spaces principal Jill Najnigier envisioned a layered scheme with pops of teal and black, as well as abstract patterns—a staple of the painter’s famous works.

Gray Oak Studio founders Leah Hook and Sonia Brady drew guidance from photographer Ansel Adams’s Thunderstorm, Yosemite Valley, conjuring a serene room that brings in the outdoors with muted blue tones and natural materials such as rattan.
