Brian Dougherty is a Managing Director in the Boston office of Compass and Head of the Private Brokerage division. Responsible for more than $250 million of sales since 2014, he was recently profiled in Boston Magazine as one of the top producing agents in the region and is often featured in the Wall Street Journal, the Boston Globe, Forbes and other distinguished publications. In 2018, Brian handled one of the largest residential transactions in Massachusetts.

Brian currently is a member of the finance committee for Governor Charlie Baker. He also serves on the Advisory Board for the Top Network (TAN) which is a membership of the top 10% producing agents in the State in addition to being a founding member of The Private List (TPL) which facilitates high-end, off-market transactions for clients preferring discretion. Brian and his partner Nick live in Cohasset with their son Henry after having lived in Boston’s Back Bay and South End neighborhoods for many years. Passionate about design and preservation, Brian and Nick have renovated and redeveloped several significant properties throughout the years including a boutique inn on Cape Cod.

What is your typical process for working with a new client?

When we begin working with a new client, either a buyer or seller, we spend time learning what their objectives are. For buyers, we want to get a sense of what their perfect home looks like when they close their eyes and dream a bit. If they are committed to a specific town or neighborhood, we work to identify special opportunities within those towns, leveraging strong relationships with local brokers and our deep rolodex. If a buyer does not have a specific town in mind, we will work to educate them on the various personalities of towns that may be relevant for them.

What makes your business stand apart?

One of our specialties is our ability to work knowledgeably throughout the region. We have helped clients in over 30 cities in and around Boston, and have sold hundreds of millions of dollars of properties with prices ranging from $500,000 to nearly $20,000,0000. Every buyer benefits from our expertise and strong reputation - one that we have worked very hard to achieve through honesty, integrity and some good humor.
